The VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series is a general industrial AC drive platform designed for variable-speed control of three-phase motors across a broad power and voltage range, with versions available for 200–240 V, 380–500 V, 525–600 V, and 525–690 V supply classes.
The series supports both open-loop and closed-loop control, with operating functions that include process PID, speed PID, torque control, flying start, Automatic Motor Adaptation, and controlled braking behavior for demanding machine applications. Its control architecture includes programmable digital and analog inputs and outputs, pulse and encoder input capability, relay outputs, RS485 serial communication, and optional external 24 VDC supply support for flexible system integration. Across the range, output frequency capability extends up to 1000 Hz on many models, while the platform also provides high overload performance, motor thermal protection, earth-fault and short-circuit protection, and heat-sink temperature monitoring. The series is offered in multiple enclosure formats including chassis, NEMA 1, and NEMA 12 styles, making it suitable for installations such as conveyors, pumps, cranes, and other industrial equipment that require configurable motor control and robust protective functions.
