The 175Z0035 frequency converter is manufactured by Danfoss as part of the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. This drive converts fixed mains power into a variable output that allows industrial induction motors to run at the speed best suited to the load. Its purpose in automation is to give process equipment tighter speed regulation, smoother acceleration, and reduced energy use compared with direct-on-line operation.
The control section is built around a process control card, so analog and digital inputs can track flow, pressure, or temperature setpoints directly from instrumentation. Mechanical integration is simplified by the slim book-style IP20 housing, which fits densely in switchgear while still allowing finger-safe access to terminals. Power is accepted from a 380–500 V three-phase supply, matching common industrial distribution systems without requiring transformers. Under a 110% overload, the inverter delivers 1.1 kW of motor power, providing short-term torque for heavy starts. Conducted emissions are attenuated by the built-in Class A1 and Class B filter, which helps the cabinet meet general electromagnetic compatibility limits without external line chokes.
Continuous production modes that require higher overload capacity can operate with a 0.75 kW output, a rating intended for 160% torque applications such as constant-pressure pumps. Dynamic deceleration is handled by the standard brake chopper, allowing excess energy to be dissipated through an external resistor instead of being fed back to the mains. Local status monitoring and parameter adjustment are available through the supplied display panel on the unit. The control section uses uncoated circuit boards, so the drive should be installed in a clean electrical room that protects the electronics from moisture and airborne contaminants. With no fieldbus option or additional application modules installed, communication remains hardwired through the available control terminals. This arrangement allows direct connection to conventional switches, relays, sensors, and analog process instruments.
