The 178B1427 frequency converter is produced by Danfoss within the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. This drive accepts three-phase mains power and generates a variable output frequency so plant controllers can match motor speed to process demand. Used in pumping stations, HVAC blowers, and general material-handling systems, it serves as the link between the fixed utility network and the rotating load, providing acceleration control and torque limiting for protective operation.
The rated mechanical output is 11 kW when the installation can tolerate 110% short-term torque, while a secondary limit of 7.5 kW applies where 160% torque is required for rapid starts. The input section is designed for a 380–500 V three-phase supply, allowing direct connection to typical industrial feeders without step-down transformers. A standard configuration with a brake chopper is integrated, giving the converter internal energy-dissipation capability so the DC bus remains stable during fast deceleration. The housing follows a book-style IP20 layout, which minimizes panel width while leaving the terminal rows accessible for wiring. No application option is installed in this configuration, so operation relies on the converter’s standard control functions and external command signals.
Electromagnetic compliance is supported by a Class A1 filter, which attenuates conducted noise so the converter can share switchgear with sensitive instrumentation. Remote input and output connections remain available through hardwired terminals, but the unit has no fieldbus option, so protocol adapters are not included.
