Product Description:
The 178B0757 frequency converter is manufactured by Danfoss for the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. As a three-phase AC drive, it modulates motor voltage and frequency so production lines, fluid-handling skids, and ventilation systems can match motor speed to process demand while reducing mechanical stress. The converter is installed between the mains supply and an induction motor, where it provides torque control, adjustable acceleration ramps, and motor protection. These functions support automated equipment that requires continuous and controlled operation under changing process conditions.
The converter uses a Compact IP20 enclosure that provides protection against accidental finger contact but requires installation in a suitable control panel for protection from dust. Its input section accepts a 380–500 V three-phase supply, making the drive compatible with common industrial power systems. The power module can deliver 2.2 kW while supporting 110% torque during startup or a short overload. Harmonic emissions are attenuated by an integrated Class A1 and Class B filter, reducing the need for additional external suppression equipment. Command logic is managed by the embedded process control card, which handles PID loops and analog reference signals while controlling the inverter section. Standard hardware is included, and the front panel has a display for entering parameters and viewing operating information.
For duty cycles that require faster acceleration, the converter sustains 1.5 kW at 160% torque, providing additional torque for rapid changes in load. The configuration has no fieldbus option, leaving the control terminals available for discrete and analog wiring. Reliability in humid or dusty workshops is improved by coated circuit boards, which help protect the electronics from moisture and conductive contaminants. The converter also has no built-in expansion option, allowing external accessories to be selected according to the application. Its local display provides readouts for voltage, current, operating status, and diagnostic messages without requiring a separate interface. Analog references and terminal-based commands allow the drive to operate in systems that do not use network communication.
