The 175Z4138 frequency converter is built by Danfoss within the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. Designed for cabinet or wall installation, it takes three-phase power and synthesizes a variable-frequency output that allows precise motor-speed adjustment, improved energy use, and consistent process flow. The device suits automated conveyors, centrifugal pumps, and ventilation systems where electronic speed control replaces mechanical throttling in industrial automation. Its variable output allows connected equipment to operate at the speed required by the process rather than remaining at a fixed operating point.
The converter accepts a mains input from a 380-500 V three-phase supply, matching the voltage range commonly used by industrial distribution panels. Under high dynamic load, it can deliver up to 22 kW when 110% torque is required, while continuous heavy-duty cycles that demand 160% torque are limited to 18.5 kW. The electronics are housed in a Compact IP54 enclosure, which protects internal components against dust and splashing water. This enclosure supports installation near production equipment where a less protective housing would require an additional cabinet. A front-mounted keypad with a supplied display provides local access to operating values, status information, and adjustable parameters. The keypad allows motor operation to be observed and controlled directly at the converter when local access is needed.
Control functionality is provided by a process control card that handles speed and start-stop commands locally when signals from a higher-level PLC are unavailable. Network communication is not enabled because the unit has no fieldbus option, so remote supervision must use the available analog or relay connections. This arrangement supports conventional hardwired control systems that do not rely on an industrial communication network. The printed circuit assemblies use non-coated boards, which should be kept away from corrosive vapors even though the enclosure protects them from external dust and water. The converter has no specified RFI filter, so an external filter may be added when the installation requires reduced conducted emissions.
