The 175Z4154 frequency converter is produced by Danfoss as part of the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. Designed for motor speed regulation in automated machinery, the unit converts fixed mains power into a variable-frequency output. This allows pumps, fans, and conveyors to match changing process demands while reducing mechanical stress on motors, couplings, and driven equipment. The converter can support applications that require adjustable acceleration, controlled deceleration, or consistent operation at speeds below the motor’s nominal rating.
The unit connects to a plant network with a 380–500 V three-phase supply, which is compatible with common industrial power distribution systems. For applications requiring a 110 percent overload for short periods, the inverter delivers up to 30 kW of shaft power. Heavy-duty operating profiles that require 160 percent starting torque are supported at outputs up to 22 kW. Heat dissipation and wiring access are accommodated by a compact IP20 housing, allowing installation inside a clean, dry control cabinet without additional enclosure gasketing. The open cabinet environment must provide sufficient clearance for cooling airflow and safe access to the power terminals. To limit conducted electrical emissions, the built-in EMC network provides Class A1 and Class B filtering across the applicable frequency range. Because a fieldbus card is not installed, speed references and diagnostic signals must pass through the terminal strip or an external communication gateway.
The converter includes a standard module with a brake chopper that manages regenerative energy produced during motor deceleration. This arrangement permits connection of an external braking resistor without requiring an additional interface card. A front-mounted supplied display provides parameter entry, operating status, and local start or stop commands. Closed-loop operation is managed by the integrated process control card, which supports proportional or PID regulation for applications such as pressure and flow control without requiring an external PLC. The internal electronics use non-coated circuit boards, so the cabinet should protect the converter from condensation, conductive dust, chemical vapor, and other airborne contaminants. Reserved expansion slots can accommodate compatible communication or application modules when additional control functions are needed.
