Product Description:
The 178B2432 frequency converter is produced by Danfoss within the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. Supplied as a standalone drive module for cabinet installation, it adjusts motor speed to process demand in automated lines, reducing the need for mechanical dampers and gear changes. By delivering variable frequency and voltage to an asynchronous motor, the unit supports energy savings, smooth acceleration, and accurate closed-loop speed regulation in material-handling systems, pumping equipment, and general process machinery. Its cabinet-mounted format allows the drive to be integrated with external controls and protective devices used throughout an automated system.
The drive accepts a 525–600 V three-phase supply and houses its power section in a compact NEMA 1 enclosure suited to clean indoor plant rooms. A process control card provides analog setpoint inputs and digital status outputs for direct integration with a distributed control system. Under constant-torque loading, the power stage delivers 3.0 kW when operated at 110% overload. Variable-torque applications can operate at 2.2 kW when the permissible peak reaches 160% of nominal load. Built-in thermal, current, and fault protections help protect the converter and connected motor from operating conditions that exceed the permitted limits.
The converter uses uncoated printed circuit boards, making it appropriate for clean, low-humidity cabinets where conformal coating is unnecessary. Operators interact with the supplied front display, which shows setpoints, output frequency, operating data, and alarm history without requiring an external interface. The converter has no fieldbus option, so communication with external control equipment must use the available hardwired analog and digital signals. Supplementary application software is not installed, leaving process functions to the standard control card or an external control system. The drive has no integrated RFI filter, so an external filter may be required where the installation must meet stricter electromagnetic compatibility requirements.
