The VLT 5011 is a frequency converter manufactured by Danfoss for the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. It modulates three-phase mains voltage so standard induction motors can run at variable speeds, making it suitable for pumps, conveyors, and general machinery in automated plants. The converter supports open-loop or closed-loop motor control and is designed for cabinet installation in industrial environments.
The drive delivers a typical shaft output of 7.5 kW, matching medium-frame motors used in HVAC systems or light process applications. Overall conversion efficiency reaches 0.96, so only a small fraction of the input power is lost as heat. A true power factor of 0.90 keeps reactive current low, easing the load on upstream breakers and busbars. The unit tolerates a supply voltage imbalance of ±2.0%, maintaining stable output without nuisance trips when the phases are slightly unequal. The system response time is 3 ms, allowing the control loop to react rapidly to speed references from a PLC.
