The VLT 5001 frequency converter is produced by Danfoss as part of the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. The device acts as an adjustable-speed drive that delivers variable voltage and frequency to standard three-phase motors, allowing conveyors, fans, and pumps in automated plants to match load demand while limiting energy use. It is intended for fixed cabinet installation in industrial automation lines where tight speed regulation, quick torque boosts, and electronic protection are needed without mechanical throttling devices.
Speed resolution is maintained at ±0.003 Hz, so the controller can track minor reference changes without stepping. Its 24 V terminal can source up to 200 mA, powering field sensors or relays that follow the inverter’s state. A transistor output delivers pulse trains at a maximum frequency of 32 kHz, allowing external meters or positioning cards to read the actual speed directly. Motor leads may be routed through up to 150 m of shielded cable while maintaining signal integrity and complying with the drive’s filtering network. For demanding starts, the unit supplies 180% for 0.5 s of rated torque, enabling heavy loads to overcome static friction before reverting to continuous limits.
Sustained acceleration capability remains high at 160% for 1 min, providing extra margin for cyclic machines that require prolonged overload.
