The 175Z4318 is a frequency converter produced by Danfoss as part of the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. This drive converts fixed three-phase input power into variable output power that allows asynchronous motors to match process demands, improving energy use and motion control in industrial plants. It serves as the central actuator in pumping stations, conveyors, and mixing equipment where consistent torque regulation and programmable speed profiles are required.
The converter accepts a 380–500 V three-phase supply, so it can be connected directly to common industrial mains without a step-down transformer. Communication with supervisory controls is available through Profibus DP V0/V1 at 12 Mbaud; this serial bus permits parameter access and status reporting over a high-speed industrial network. With an overload capacity of up to 110 percent torque, the drive can deliver 18.5 kW of mechanical power for medium-sized production motors. Electromagnetic emissions are suppressed by the integrated Class A1 and Class B filter, reducing conducted noise to meet applicable installation categories. The electronics are contained in a compact IP20 housing designed for cabinet mounting while still preventing accidental contact with live parts.
To support rapid deceleration cycles, the unit has a standard configuration with a brake chopper, allowing excess motor energy to be directed to an external resistor instead of remaining in the DC link. During overload periods of up to 160 percent torque, the unit sustains 15 kW, providing additional capacity for starting heavy centrifugal loads. Control algorithms reside on a process control card, enabling PID functions and local setpoint handling for process-oriented applications. The unit uses uncoated circuit boards, which are suitable for clean electrical rooms where conformal protection against moisture and airborne contaminants is unnecessary. A front-mounted display provides direct access to operating values and local adjustments. The accessible interface allows operating parameters to be reviewed and modified without requiring a separate display device.
