The 175Z0535 frequency converter is produced by Danfoss as part of the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. Designed for three-phase induction motors, it converts fixed input power into a regulated output that allows machinery to accelerate, run, or brake under closed-loop speed commands. The converter is suitable for general industrial duties and can be installed alongside PLC racks, contactors, and soft starters. It supports automated conveyors, pumps, and ventilation fans that require controlled speed, torque, or acceleration. The regulated output also reduces the mechanical stress associated with abrupt motor starts and stops.
The converter is housed in a book-style IP20 enclosure that fits into narrow control cabinets while providing finger-safe shielding. It draws power from a 380–500 V three-phase supply, rectifies the incoming voltage, and creates a variable output through insulated-gate bipolar transistors. Networked supervision is available through a Profibus DP V0/V1 interface operating at 12 Mbaud, enabling setpoint exchange and status reporting without extensive discrete wiring. Conducted and radiated emissions are attenuated by a filter rated for Class A1 and Class B, reducing the need for additional cabinet filtering. Under 110% torque conditions, the power stage delivers 1.1 kW, providing headroom for short mechanical overloads during startup or flow transients. The control boards are uncoated, making the converter appropriate for clean, dry electrical rooms where airborne contaminants and condensation are controlled.
The drive includes extended 24 V backup functionality with a brake chopper, allowing its control logic to remain active during brief input-power interruptions. The brake chopper also allows excess DC-bus energy to be directed to an external resistor during rapid deceleration. For applications requiring up to 160% torque, the converter is rated at 0.75 kW, making it suitable for smaller motors that require high pullout capability. Regulation algorithms operate on the integrated process control card, which executes PID loops locally and reduces the processing demand placed on the plant PLC. Operating parameters and alarms appear on the supplied display, providing direct access to drive status and configuration menus. Local process regulation can maintain variables such as pressure, flow, or speed by adjusting the motor output in response to connected feedback signals.
