The 176F0436 is an AC frequency converter manufactured by Danfoss and supplied under the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. Designed for plant automation, the unit converts fixed mains frequency into a variable output that aligns motor speed with real-time process demand. By regulating voltage and frequency simultaneously, it enables conveyors, mixers, and pumping stations to match changing load requirements. This variable-speed operation can conserve energy and reduce the mechanical wear that would otherwise occur during constant-speed operation. The converter is suited to industrial systems that need adjustable motor speed and responsive process control.
The drive connects to a 200–240 V three-phase supply, allowing installation on standard low-voltage distribution systems without an external transformer. When an application permits a 110% overload, the converter delivers 2.2 kW to the motor shaft. Under a 160% overload requirement, its continuous power rating is 1.5 kW, providing a separate operating point for loads with higher starting torque. Conducted and radiated electrical noise is limited by the integrated Class A1 and Class B filter, which helps reduce interference with nearby instrumentation. The electronics are housed in a compact NEMA 1 enclosure that protects against accidental contact and is intended for installation in a suitable indoor location. The unit has the standard configuration without a built-in application option, keeping its controls focused on essential speed regulation and PID functions.
Control tasks are handled by a process control card that supports proportional, integral, and derivative regulation directly inside the drive. Users interact with the converter through a factory-fitted keypad and supplied display, allowing operating values and parameters to be viewed locally without an external human-machine interface. The converter contains non-coated circuit boards, so it should be installed in a clean, dry cabinet that protects the electronics from moisture and conductive contamination. Its lack of a fieldbus option means that proprietary and open fieldbus modules are not installed. This configuration supports straightforward local control wiring and avoids relying on a network communication module. Communication capability can be added separately if the installation later requires integration with a compatible industrial control network.
