The 175Z0156 is a frequency converter produced by Danfoss within the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. It is installed between the plant’s three-phase supply and an induction motor to deliver variable voltage and frequency, allowing industrial controllers to adjust shaft speed, reduce inrush torque, and match mechanical output to process requirements. The device serves as an electrical interface that replaces throttling methods and supports energy-efficient automation in material handling, HVAC, and general manufacturing lines. Its variable-speed operation can reduce unnecessary motor output when an application does not require full flow, pressure, or conveyor speed.
The converter accepts a 380–500 V three-phase supply and supports two continuous torque classes. It delivers 7.5 kW when the application requires 110% rated torque and 5.5 kW when 160% torque is required for short overloads. Its housing is a compact IP20 enclosure, so it mounts in a protected cabinet where accidental contact with internal components is restricted while cooling airflow remains available. Conducted emissions are controlled by the integrated Class A1 and B filter, permitting installation on low-voltage networks that require moderate electromagnetic compatibility. The unit has neither an application option board nor a fieldbus module, which keeps the control arrangement suitable for standalone operation through hardwired terminals.
Control logic is implemented on a process control card that manages analog references, digital inputs, and the built-in braking functions. Mechanical energy returned during deceleration is dissipated by the standard brake chopper, preventing DC-bus overvoltage without requiring an additional external braking module. The supplied display panel is mounted on the front and shows speed, current, operating status, and fault codes for local adjustments and diagnostics. The electronics use non-coated circuit boards, so the converter is intended for clean, dry electrical rooms rather than areas exposed to corrosive chemicals, conductive dust, or persistent condensation. Terminal I/O accepts the required commands and reference signals directly from compatible industrial control equipment.
