The Danfoss VLT 5002 is part of the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series and delivers a typical shaft output of 1.1 kW or 1.5 HP with a rated motor frequency of 50 or 60 Hz. It provides output voltage ranging from 0 to 100 percent of supply voltage and offers a starting torque of 160 percent for one minute. The converter supports motor cable lengths up to 150 meters screened or 300 meters unscreened and can handle power cables up to 4 mm², with a maximum short-circuit rating of 100,000 A.

The VLT 5002 frequency converter is produced by Danfoss within the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. Inside automation panels, it converts fixed-frequency mains power into adjustable power for induction motors that operate pumps, fans, and small conveyors. With a typical shaft output of 1.1 kW (1.5 HP), the unit provides a compact way to match motor speed to process demand while limiting mechanical wear and energy consumption. Its variable-frequency output allows connected equipment to operate at the speed required by the application instead of continuously running at full speed.
Several torque-related limits govern the drive’s dynamic behavior. A peak starting torque of 180% for 0.5 seconds handles momentary breakaway loads, while a starting torque of 160% for 1 minute supports heavy acceleration duty. During linear ramps, the available acceleration torque remains at 100%, providing predictable speed increases when the motor is fully loaded. The programmable ramp time ranges from 0.05 to 3600 seconds, allowing gentle starts, controlled acceleration, or rapid stops as required. Output voltage is continuously modulated from 0 to 100% of the supply voltage, allowing constant-flux control across the operating speed range without external transformers. Continuous overload torque is 160%, which supports temporary increases in mechanical demand during operation.
Cabling provisions accommodate long motor connections and electrical systems with high available fault current. Shielded motor leads may extend up to 150 m, while unshielded leads may extend up to 300 m. The drive can withstand a fault current of up to 100,000 A when suitably rated upstream protective devices are installed. In parallel inverter configurations, the load-sharing link can reach 25 m, and the brake cable can reach 20 m. Incoming mains frequency may vary within 48 to 62 Hz, with a tolerance of ±1%, while the phase-to-phase voltage imbalance may reach ±2.0% without requiring derating. Power and motor terminals accept conductors with a maximum size of 4 mm² or 10 AWG. This conductor capacity supports the acceleration current carried between the mains supply, converter, and connected motor.
