The 175Z0270 frequency converter is built by Danfoss for the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. Designed for motor speed regulation in pumps, fans, and other process equipment, it converts fixed-frequency mains power into a variable-frequency output that matches load demand, reducing energy consumption and mechanical stress in automated installations. Within an automation cell, it delivers closed-loop torque and speed control so production parameters such as flow, pressure, or conveyor speed remain stable under changing conditions.
The converter is enclosed in a compact IP54 housing, so its internal electronics are protected from dust ingress and water splashes common in plant areas. It connects to a three-phase supply rated at 380–500 V, allowing direct wiring to standard industrial mains without transformers. In applications that permit a 110% overload, the drive supports a motor output of 3.0 kW. Dynamic deceleration is assisted by an integrated brake chopper, which directs regenerated energy to an external resistor bank. Electromagnetic interference is reduced by a built-in Class A1 and B filter that helps the installation meet typical EMC limits. The drive has no integrated application option or fieldbus option, so parameter access is handled locally or through hardwired I/O.
Control logic is implemented with a process control card that provides analog and digital terminals for proportional speed references, contact inputs, and relay alarms. For short bursts at up to 160% torque, the converter can deliver 2.2 kW, providing headroom during startup or sudden load spikes. The power section uses non-coated circuit boards, which support heat transfer but require installation in an environment free from corrosive vapors. A supplied display shows operating frequency, current, and fault codes, enabling local adjustments without external tools.
