The 175Z4168 frequency converter is built by Danfoss within the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. It converts fixed-frequency mains power into a variable-frequency output so plant controllers can match induction motor speed and torque to process demand in automated lines, conveyors, and pumping systems. By replacing mechanical throttling with electronic modulation, the unit can improve energy efficiency and reduce wear in continuous manufacturing processes. The compact drive module mounts inside a control cabinet alongside PLC hardware, allowing it to support centralized motor control architectures while remaining protected by the surrounding enclosure.
The drive is supplied in a compact IP20 enclosure, permitting installation in ventilated switchboards where basic finger protection is adequate. Its input accepts a 380–500 V three-phase supply, so it can be connected directly to common industrial mains without a transformer. When an application requires 110% overload for short intervals, the inverter feeds the motor with up to 37 kW of electrical power. Closed-loop regulation is performed by the internal process control card, which adjusts output frequency and voltage to meet setpoints issued by the host controller. A display is supplied on the front panel for local parameter entry, operating status review, and alarm code reading. These controls allow operating values to be viewed directly at the cabinet without requiring a separate display device.
The high-overload channel is complemented by a continuous heavy-duty capability of 30 kW at 160% torque, providing additional capacity for starting high-inertia loads. The converter uses non-coated circuit boards, so it is intended for clean, dry enclosures rather than areas exposed to corrosive gases, persistent condensation, or conductive contaminants. Communication relies on hardwired analog and digital I/O because the control section has no integrated fieldbus option. Electromagnetic emission control must be provided externally because the factory configuration includes no integrated RFI filter. The absence of an application option leaves the drive with its standard control functions, while the cabinet installation must provide suitable ventilation, environmental protection, external interference suppression, and the required control wiring.
