Product Description:
The 178B0785 frequency converter is produced by Danfoss as part of the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. This drive takes fixed-frequency three-phase mains power and delivers a variable-frequency output that lets automation equipment match motor speed and torque to real-time load demands. Intended for pump skids, material-handling lines, and general machinery, the product combines power electronics, control logic, and protective filtering in a single compact package.
The inverter accepts a 380–500 V three-phase supply, so no step-up or step-down transformers are required in most plants. Under 110% overload, it can supply 4.0 kW to the motor terminals, providing additional torque for short acceleration or startup periods. A built-in process control card executes PI algorithms and generates carrier-based PWM to maintain speed within tight tolerances. The compact IP20 housing protects users from live parts while remaining shallow enough for densely populated panels. Conducted and radiated emissions are attenuated by the integrated Class A1 and B filter, aiding compliance with industrial electromagnetic compatibility limits. The standard hardware configuration keeps the available controls focused on the drive’s installed functions.
Continuous operation at the higher 160% torque setting is limited to 3.0 kW, balancing thermal loading against the short-term reserve noted above. Reliability in humid or particulate environments is improved by coated control and gate boards that resist condensation and airborne contaminants. A supplied front-panel display presents real-time values, alarms, and menu navigation without requiring an external programming device. The unit has no fieldbus option, so setpoints are entered through analog inputs, digital contacts, or the keypad. These local interfaces allow the converter to receive speed references, start and stop commands, and other operating signals directly from connected control devices.
