The 178B2469 is an AC frequency converter manufactured by Danfoss within the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. This unit converts fixed utility power into a variable-frequency output so plant controllers can regulate induction motor speed and torque. By adjusting the fundamental frequency rather than relying on mechanical throttling, the converter supports energy-efficient operation of pumps, fans, and conveyor drives in automated installations. The model fits into cabinets where space is limited and can be paired with PLCs that provide analog speed references.
The input section is rated for a 525–600 V three-phase supply. This voltage range suits industrial networks that distribute 575 V power and reduces line current for the same kilowatt level. Under continuous loading, the converter delivers 11 kW when the application demands up to 110% of nominal torque. At the 160% overload point, it permits 7.5 kW, supplying short bursts of higher shaft torque without requiring a larger drive. Regulation is executed by a process control card, providing proportional speed control that follows external process signals rather than relying only on open-loop voltage-to-frequency curves. All circuitry is mounted in a compact IP20 enclosure, so the drive must be installed inside a switchboard while occupying less panel depth than earlier VLT platforms.
The converter uses non-coated circuit boards and should operate in a clean, dry enclosure without conductive dust or moisture. It has no built-in option for application-specific macros. The communication slot has no fieldbus option, so commands arrive through hardwired analog or digital inputs and outputs. A factory-installed display is supplied on the front panel to show output frequency, current, and alarm codes, allowing operating information to be viewed directly at the drive. An external radio-frequency interference filter can be added when required because the converter does not include an internal filter.
