The 175Z4809 frequency converter is produced by Danfoss as part of the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. This three-phase drive converts fixed utility power into a variable output that lets PLCs adjust motor speed for conveyors, mixers, and other industrial loads. Positioned as a process-oriented unit, it offers a compact footprint that simplifies panel integration in automated machinery. Its variable-frequency output supports controlled acceleration, deceleration, and continuous speed adjustment across a range of industrial processes.
The control section uses a process control card, allowing proportional speed regulation and setpoint tracking without external add-on boards. Operators interact through the front-mounted keypad, and the drive includes a supplied display that shows real-time frequency, current, and alarm messages. The thermal design uses a compact IP20 housing, so the unit mounts inside standard switchboards while still providing touch-safe protection. Power is drawn from a 380–500 V three-phase supply, and the converter can deliver up to 55 kW at 110% torque. Standard hardware and non-coated boards form the baseline build, providing a consistent electrical layout for routine operation and maintenance.
For higher overload events, the same platform supplies 45 kW at 160% torque, supporting short bursts of acceleration without oversizing the cabinet feeder. Electromagnetic compatibility is handled by an integrated Class A1 and Class B filter, which attenuates conducted noise on the motor leads and mains lines. The converter includes no built-in specialized application card and no fieldbus option. Automation systems therefore connect through hardwired analog or digital signals for commands and references. These connections allow external controls to issue start and stop commands, select operating states, and provide frequency references without a dedicated communications network. The reduced number of optional communication components also keeps the internal arrangement straightforward while preserving the control functions needed for common process applications.
