The VLT5005175Z0025 is a frequency converter produced by Danfoss as a member of the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. Within an automation cell, it sits between the three-phase power supply and the motor, creating a variable-frequency, variable-voltage output that controls shaft speed, starting torque, and braking energy. This electronic control eliminates mechanical throttling devices, reduces inrush current during startup, and allows process setpoints to be adjusted remotely from a PLC or operator panel.
The drive has a system response time of 3 ms, so it tracks speed references with minimal lag. The output frequency can be adjusted in increments of ±0.003 Hz, providing the resolution needed for precise tension or flow regulation. Both short-term overload capacity and starting torque are rated at 160% of the nominal value, with the starting torque available for one minute to free stalled loads. When loaded to 110% torque, the drive delivers 4.0 kW, while its heavy-duty power rating is 3.0 kW. Unlimited output switching supports rapid reversing sequences, and the inverter operates motors designed for a base frequency of 50 or 60 Hz. An auxiliary supply of 24 VDC ±15% keeps the control electronics active during a loss of main power, maintaining fieldbus communication and diagnostic functions.
The drive supports shielded motor cables up to 150 m and unshielded motor cables up to 300 m. Both cable types use conductors measuring 4 mm² (10 AWG), which matches the required power cable cross-section. A load-sharing link can extend 25 m between drives, and the brake relay supports a cable length of 20 m to external resistors. Programmable ramp times range from 0.05–3600 seconds, allowing acceleration and deceleration to be adjusted for different machine loads. During the fastest ramps, the unit supplies a peak torque of 180% for 0.5 seconds. Continuous operation is permitted at altitudes up to 1000 m without derating.
