Product Description:
The VLT 5005 frequency converter is produced by Danfoss within the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. It accepts industrial power and produces an adjustable output for controlling standard AC motors in automated conveyors, pump stations, and fan arrays. The converter delivers precise torque and speed regulation without mechanical throttling, allowing integration into process lines that require repeatable acceleration profiles and tight velocity control.
Electrically, the drive operates on three-phase AC power and maintains a true power factor of 0.90 at rated load, limiting the reactive current drawn from the supply. High breakaway loads are accommodated by a starting torque reserve of 160% for one minute, while short bursts can reach 180% for 0.5 seconds to overcome static friction. Output frequency can be adjusted in increments of ±0.003 Hz, and the internal vector processor responds to reference changes within 3 ms. These performance values result in an open-loop speed error of ±7.5 rpm below 1500 rpm and an open-loop speed range of 1:100 relative to synchronous speed, supporting accurate speed or flow control without external feedback devices.
The input has a short-circuit withstand rating of 100,000 A, and the converter can operate at elevations up to 1000 m above sea level. Motor connections may use unshielded cables up to 300 m long or shielded cables up to 150 m long. Conductors for the power and motor terminals must not exceed 4 mm² (10 AWG), helping ensure that the installed wiring fits the available terminals. Closed-loop control with encoder feedback reduces the speed error to ±1.5 rpm below 1500 rpm and extends the regulation range to 1:1000 relative to synchronous speed. The quick-disconnect architecture supports the permitted motor cable sizes while helping keep electromagnetic interference within acceptable limits.
