Product Description:
The VLT 5027 is an AC frequency converter produced by Danfoss within the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. The unit converts fixed-frequency three-phase mains power into a variable output that lets automation controllers regulate induction motor speed, torque, and process throughput. By modulating the supply to the motor, the device supports applications such as conveyors, pumps, and mixers that benefit from precise electronic speed control.
Closed-loop regulation capability reaches a ratio of 1:1000, so the drive can hold motor speed accurately over a thousandfold range when feedback is present. For open-loop operation, the usable span is 1:100, and the digital synthesizer has a resolution of ±0.003 Hz, providing fine incremental adjustments even at low frequencies. The inverter can command outputs up to 1000 Hz, allowing high-pole or spindle motors to run well above line frequency. At 110% loading, the shaft can deliver 22 kW. Dynamic setpoint changes occur in only 3 ms, minimizing lag in tension or flow control loops. The supply section tolerates an imbalance of ±1.5% between phases and maintains a true power factor of 0.90 to support efficient current draw.
For transient demands, the converter provides an overload torque of 160% and can maintain that starting torque for one minute. Its peak capability reaches 180% for 0.5 seconds to accelerate high-inertia loads. Under the 160% duty classification, the continuous mechanical output is 18.5 kW. Motor leads can extend up to 150 m without additional filters, while the brake interface permits 20 m of cable. The load-sharing link remains stable with cable lengths up to 25 m, allowing flexible cabinet placement in distributed installations. A short-circuit withstand rating of 100,000 A allows the drive to connect directly to fault-limited feeders in industrial switchgear.
