Product Description:
The 178B0364 is a frequency converter produced by Danfoss for the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. Designed for three-phase induction motors, the unit modulates the input power to regulate shaft speed and torque without mechanical throttling. Installed between the supply network and the motor, the converter can reduce energy consumption and provide smoother process transitions in conveying, pumping, and general automation applications.
The converter accepts a 380–500 V three-phase supply, allowing one frame to operate with common 400 V distribution systems. Within this voltage range, it can deliver up to 1.1 kW when the load requires 110% torque or 0.75 kW when the application requires 160% torque for short peaks. The electronics are housed in a book-style IP20 enclosure, allowing the drive to be installed in narrow control panels while providing protection against accidental contact with internal components. A built-in operator keypad and display provide direct access to operating data, parameter settings, and local controls. For supervisory communication, the embedded DeviceNet interface exchanges speed references, status words, and diagnostic data with PLCs over a CAN-based network. This communication capability allows the converter to participate in coordinated control systems without requiring a separate fieldbus adapter.
The control core uses a process control card that supports closed-loop regulation of pressure, flow, or temperature through internal PID functions. The base configuration does not include an additional option module, so external functions must connect through the available control interfaces. Signal circuits are mounted on noncoated circuit boards, which require installation in a clean, conditioned cabinet that limits exposure to moisture, conductive dust, and corrosive airborne contaminants. Electromagnetic emissions are reduced by an integrated Class A1 and B filter, helping limit interference with nearby control wiring and sensitive instrumentation. The local display provides convenient access to status information while DeviceNet carries operating commands and diagnostic data between the converter and the supervisory controller.
