The 175Z0058 frequency converter is manufactured by Danfoss and belongs to the VLT 5000 Frequency Converters series. This AC drive converts fixed-frequency line power into a variable-frequency output, allowing precise speed and torque regulation of standard induction motors in conveyor, pump, and fan applications common to industrial automation. When installed in a control panel, the unit can adapt motor performance to changing loads without relying on mechanical throttling. This approach can reduce unnecessary energy use in systems where the required motor speed varies during operation.
It is built in a book-style IP20 housing, so the converter mounts edgewise in narrow switchgear and provides basic protection against accidental contact while remaining open to cabinet airflow. The input section accepts a 380–500 V three-phase supply; internal rectification and pulse-width modulation then deliver controlled voltage to the motor terminals. Under a 110% short-term torque load, the converter supports 4.0 kW of motor power, while sustained applications requiring 160% torque are limited to 3.0 kW. Regulation is managed by an onboard process control card that runs speed and PID routines without an external controller. These control functions help keep process variables stable when operating conditions or mechanical loads fluctuate. Adequate panel ventilation must be provided because the open housing depends on airflow within the enclosure to remove operating heat.
Electromagnetic emissions are reduced by the integrated Class A1 and Class B filter, allowing the drive to operate in cabinets that also contain sensitive instrumentation. A supplied display provides local access to status information and parameters, including frequency, current, and alarm codes, without requiring a separate computer. The power section uses uncoated circuit boards, so the converter should be installed in a clean, dry enclosure that protects its electronics from moisture and airborne contaminants. Communication expansion is not activated because the model has no fieldbus option. No application option is built into the unit, leaving the digital and analog inputs and outputs on the main control card as the available interfaces. External control signals can therefore be connected directly to the standard terminals for basic speed references, process feedback, and operating commands.
