The 8LS three-phase synchronous motors from B&R comprise a range of permanent-magnet, electronically commutated motors designed for applications that need strong dynamic response, precise positioning, compact size, and reduced weight.
The series is available in multiple construction and cooling variants—including self-cooled versions, models with an attached fan module, and options such as a liquid-cooled A-side flange—offered with either built-in connectors or a terminal box, and with a single-cable (hybrid) solution available for selected types. For closed-loop control, motors can be ordered with EnDat encoders or resolver feedback, and encoder variants for functional safety are available. When an EnDat encoder is used, the motor’s mechanical and electrical data is stored in the encoder so the connected B&R servo drive can automatically identify the motor and load its nominal and limit parameters during commissioning or replacement. Mechanical options include smooth or keyed shaft ends, an oil-seal option that provides IP65 protection per EN 60034-5, and an optional permanent-magnet holding brake that is controlled by the B&R drive system and intended for holding rather than continuous operational braking.
