The 8LSA35.EA030D100-3 is supplied by B&R Automation as part of the 8LS Synchronous Motors series. Intended for installation in packaging machinery, assembly stations, and general handling axes, this rotary actuator converts drive power into precise shaft movement for coordinated positioning tasks within an automation cell. The motor follows the standard 8LSA configuration, uses conventional bearings without reinforcement, and has length code 5 for its stack depth. The mounting flange has a diameter of 91.3 mm, and the housing permits direct attachment through the corresponding flange pattern. Power and feedback lines exit through an angled swivel connector housing that accepts the series cabling kit and allows the cable direction to be adjusted during installation. The motor uses self-cooling with free air circulation, eliminating the need for an external blower or a liquid-cooling circuit. Its rated operating speed is 3000 rpm, and a three-phase synchronous winding produces the controlled torque required for servo operation. A keyed shaft end provides positive torque transmission to a coupling, pulley, or gearbox. The shaft does not have an oil seal, so sealing must be provided at the machine interface when protection against lubricant or contaminant entry is required.
Position feedback is supplied by an inductive EnDat encoder using protocol revision 2.1, with its signals routed through the swivel connector. The single-turn encoder provides 19/0 bits of resolution, representing 19 bits of position data and no multi-turn position data. This arrangement provides fine incremental control within one mechanical revolution without using a multi-turn counter. The encoder’s digital protocol reduces susceptibility to electrical noise and maintains accurate feedback while the motor operates at its rated speed. The motor has no holding brake, so the drive must provide holding torque while energized. When power is removed, stationary or vertical loads must be secured by an external clamp or another suitable mechanical restraint.
