The PPC Controllers series is a CNC control module implemented as an ISA-bus plug-in card for an industrial PC and uses SERCOS fiber-optic communication to connect to digital drives.
The base configuration supports up to 8 drives on one SERCOS ring, and the system can be expanded with up to three passive PC/104 axis processor modules to control up to 32 drives across four SERCOS rings, with axes assignable to different NC processes. Firmware is provided on a separate PC-card-compatible PSM01.1 module and covers hardware startup/initialization plus NC functions such as program processing, tool management, and machine/NC data handling. PLC communication is handled through the Bosch Rexroth local bus using compatible PLC modules (for example MTS-P01.2 or MTS-P02.2) connected via a dedicated ribbon-cable interface. Hardware includes a PowerPC CPU with SDRAM memory, a real-time clock/diagnostic display, and a lithium battery that buffers the RTC and battery-backed SRAM to retain application data when power is removed.
