The PPC-P01.1A-N-A3-A3-A3-FW is a control unit manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the PPC Controllers series. Installed on an ISA backplane, it serves as the motion and logic core for up to four SERCOS fiber-optic rings, coordinating multiple servo drives in automated cells. The board is supplied in an industrial PC housing to simplify cabinet integration, and its primary role is to execute path calculations while exchanging setpoint and status data with drives and PLCs. This arrangement allows one controller to supervise axis coordination and machine sequencing from a centralized platform.

It operates from a regulated input of 5 VDC, and the power rails are designed so that consumption does not exceed 1.5 A. A Power PC microprocessor manages the kernel and accesses 8 MB of SDRAM main memory, 4 MB of SDRAM data memory, and 4 MB of flash that retains user programs after power loss. Fast variables that must survive short outages are saved in 64 KB of NVRAM backed by a Renata CR2477N lithium cell. The controller can coordinate up to 32 drives, and its optical interfaces are grouped into as many as four SERCOS rings to separate machine sections. All signals and the PC/104 expansion bus are routed through an ISA slot, where an additional 2.4 A of current may be drawn for modules.

The card supplied in design version 1 is 23 mm deep, 293 mm wide, and 142 mm high, so it occupies a single slot without interfering with adjacent boards. Its carrier and components weigh only 240 g, which helps reduce mechanical loading on the backplane during shock or vibration. When larger application programs are required, a memory expansion socket accepts a 4 MB module that matches the timing parameters of the SDRAM banks. The compact profile also helps preserve clearance in densely populated racks, where neighboring cards and cable paths must remain unobstructed.
