Bosch Rexroth Indramat manufactures the PPC-R22.1N-T-G2-NN-NN-FW control unit for use in multi-axis automation cells. As part of the PPC Controllers series, the module executes motion commands, interpolates axes, and exchanges real-time data between higher-level PLCs and servo drives. By combining Sercos fiber timing with Ethernet diagnostics, it enables synchronized tool positioning, indexing conveyors, and pick-and-place gantries without an external PC. Its firmware-based CNC core issues position setpoints, handles cam profiles, and supervises error handling so a machine builder can implement complex kinematics inside a compact rack slot.
The primary Ethernet channel reaches a throughput of 100 MBaud through a standard RJ-45 jack; auto-negotiation selects half- or full-duplex, and full-duplex transmission keeps command and feedback packets separate. Application code, parameter files, and boot images reside on a 32 MB PFM Flash Card, safeguarding data during power removal. The controller is energized from a regulated 24 VDC bus and can supervise up to 40 servo or inverter drives across the two Sercos rings that operate at 16 MBaud. Version 1 hardware exposes two RS-232/RS-485 serial ports for legacy operator panels, accepts field wiring up to 1.5 mm², and tolerates supply ripple up to 4 Vpp without watchdog trips. Network utilities run on TCP/IP port 5001, allowing remote parameterization while the RECO housing keeps electromagnetic emissions inside the cabinet.
Physical integration is simplified by the 3 rear expansion connectors; only one rack bay is required because the enclosure weighs just 1.3 kg. The internal backplane limits consumption to 1.2 A, so power distribution remains within the existing 24 V auxiliary rail found in most cabinets.
