The Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors are high-pole-count permanent-magnet motors designed for low-speed, constant-speed operation, with standard synchronous speeds such as 72 rpm at 60 Hz and 60 rpm at 50 Hz.
They use a brushless construction with a permanent-magnet rotor, stainless steel shaft, and ball-bearing-supported design to provide durable and reliable performance. Depending on the series and configuration, these motors can operate from single-phase AC through phase-shifting components or directly from two-phase or three-phase supplies, and they are available in multiple frame sizes with options such as leads, terminal boxes, rear shafts, and gearmotor arrangements. The series is built for fast response, with start, stop, and reverse action occurring within about one and a half cycles of the applied frequency, while starting and running current remain essentially the same and stalled operation does not create a damaging inrush current. Motor speed is directly proportional to applied frequency, and the permanent-magnet construction provides residual holding torque that can be increased by applying DC to the windings when additional holding force is needed.
