The SS242LG5 is a gear-reduced synchronous stepping motor manufactured by Danaher for the Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors series. The unit combines a permanent-magnet motor with an integral spur gearbox to deliver incremental motion at very low speeds. It is suitable for indexing tables, labeling heads, and other positioning axes that must lock precisely between steps in automated machinery.
The motor runs from a single-phase 240 VAC supply and transfers power through a 5:1 reduction that multiplies stall torque while reducing shaft speed. The gear train operates at 88% efficiency, so most of the mechanical input from the motor is delivered through the output shaft. Minimum continuous torque reaches 1056 oz-in, allowing the motor to drive high-moment loads without external gearing. Under 50 Hz excitation, the shaft turns at 12 RPM. The load inertia rating at this frequency is 22 lb-in², supporting controlled acceleration within the motor’s step accuracy range. Mechanical compliance includes 8 degrees of input-shaft lost motion ahead of the gearbox and 2 degrees of backlash at the output shaft, both of which affect positioning repeatability.
