Product Description:
The SS702 synchronous motor is manufactured by Danaher as part of the Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors series. This single-phase unit converts line frequency into controlled, low-speed rotation, allowing machine builders to position tooling, meter product flow, or index fixtures without closed-loop feedback. Its construction supports direct connection to AC supplies commonly found in conveyors, filling machines, and light material-handling stations. The synchronous design maintains a consistent operating speed when the applied frequency and mechanical load remain within the motor’s operating limits.
The motor draws 0.55 A RMS per phase from the mains and is designed for a 240 V AC supply, so a control transformer is unnecessary in most installations. At its rated frequency, it turns at 72 rpm and provides a minimum running torque of 700 oz-in (4.94 N·m). This torque allows the motor to advance incremental loads through each step without stalling under permitted operating conditions. The rotor can accelerate payloads whose reflected inertia does not exceed 0.42 oz-in-s² (30 kg-cm²). The motor withstands axial thrust of up to 50 lb (222 N), helping preserve bearing life when couplings apply force along the shaft axis.
Mechanical installation uses a 3.000 in (76.2 mm) bolt circle and a 2.186 in pilot to align the motor frame with the mounting surface. The shaft has a diameter of 0.500 in and extends 1.38 in beyond the mounting face, providing space for a suitable coupling. Overhung loads must remain within the rated 25 lb (111 N) radial limit to avoid excessive stress on the shaft and bearings. The motor has an overall length of 6.99 in, which must be considered when determining installation clearance. The enclosure must also accommodate the required 3 µF, 330 V AC phase-shift capacitor and 500 Ω, 100 W series resistor. These external components match the motor impedance, establish the required phase relationship, and limit inrush current during operation. The motor weighs 15.5 lb (7.0 kg), which must be included when calculating the supported load for mobile platforms, gantries, or other moving assemblies.
