The SS451TG3 is a geared synchronous stepping motor built by Danaher as part of the Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors series. Designed for fixed-frequency operation from a single-phase power source, the unit couples a permanent-magnet motor section to a precision gearhead, providing compact indexed rotary motion for packaging equipment, small conveyors, and valve actuators. It converts alternating current into predictable angular movement while supplying enough mechanical output to drive moderate loads without external transmission components. The integrated gearhead also reduces output speed while increasing the torque available at the shaft.
With standard 60 Hz excitation, the geared output turns at 24 rpm and delivers a minimum continuous shaft torque of 1188 oz-in. The gear train operates at 88% efficiency, allowing mechanical power and duty capability to be estimated from the motor input and geared output. The stator is wound for a 120 VAC supply, and a 14 µF phase-shifting capacitor provides the quadrature current required by the single-phase circuit. During operation, the motor draws 0.8 A of line current. The reflected inertia of the gear set is 0.105 lb-in², which helps limit response delay during starts and stops. Input lost motion is 6°, while output gear backlash is limited to 2° for applications that require repeatable registration.
The motor mounts through a 3.88-inch bolt circle with 0.223-inch clearance holes, and wiring enters through a 0.50-14 NPT conduit thread. The housing has an overall length of 6.84 inches, providing a compact assembly for equipment with limited installation space. The shaft can withstand an axial thrust of up to 100 lb and a radial side load of up to 150 lb, allowing a sprocket or pulley to be attached directly when the applied forces remain within these limits. The maximum allowable load inertia is 43 lb-in². Loads with greater inertia should be connected through suitable compliant components to reduce shock during cyclic starts and stops.
