The X1500 is a synchronous step motor manufactured by Danaher within the Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors series. It is designed to deliver constant low-speed rotation for indexers, conveyors, and other positioning tasks where precise speed matching to the line supply is preferred over electronic drives. By locking its rotor to the line frequency through a capacitor-run circuit, the motor supplies fixed-angle motion without an external encoder. This operating principle makes the motor suitable for incremental automation duties that require steady, repeatable movement.
The electrical section is intended for a single-phase supply of 120 VAC, and the winding draws 3 A under nominal conditions. A line frequency of 60 Hz establishes the synchronous cadence, so the shaft speed follows the facility frequency without adjustment. A run capacitor with a capacitance of 30 µF shifts current between the start and run windings. Its dielectric withstand rating of 330 VAC protects the capacitor against voltage peaks. The RC wiring diagram places a 55 Ω, 375 W resistor in series with the capacitor to balance the phase angle and limit inrush current. The motor’s internal impedance also helps keep the current crest factor within acceptable operating limits.
A minimum pull-out torque of 1500 oz-in supports demanding indexing loads without causing the rotor to lose synchronism. The synchronous speed of 72 rpm accommodates feed systems that require slow and repeatable motion. The rotor has a reflected inertia of 12 lb-in², so coupling it to tables or gearboxes with similar inertia can reduce start-stop overshoot. The shaft bearings tolerate an axial load of 100 lb and a radial load of 50 lb, enabling the motor to support belt tension or end-thrust applications without additional outboard bearings. Operation is permitted at ambient temperatures up to 40 °C. Thermal epoxy helps keep the case temperature below 100 °C while the motor operates at rated torque.
