The SS242-1012 is a two-phase synchronous stepping motor produced by Danaher in the Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors series. This motor converts alternating line power into precise incremental shaft rotation, making it suitable for positioning tables, indexers, and other industrial automation equipment that relies on open-loop speed control. Rated for a supply of 240 Vac, the unit operates directly from standard single-phase mains without a transformer.
At the rated voltage, the stator draws only 0.2 A, so heat rise remains modest and branch-circuit wiring can remain 18 AWG in many control cabinets. A run capacitor rated at 2 µF is connected between the windings to produce the 90-degree phase shift required for self-starting torque at line frequency. When energized by 60 Hz power, the shaft turns at 72 rpm, a synchronous operating speed established by the motor design. The motor develops at least 240 oz-in of static torque, which is sufficient to hold medium indexing tables without mechanical brakes. To retain this pull-in margin, the driven mechanism should limit reflected inertia to 0.10 oz-in-s². Support surfaces must match the 3.875-inch bolt circle and the 0.223-inch mounting holes provided on the faceplate.
For installations powered by 50 Hz networks, the rotation rate changes to 60 rpm, which can simplify metric line sequencing while keeping step accuracy unchanged. The shaft tolerates 50 lb of end thrust and 25 lb of radial side load, permitting direct coupling to light lead screws or small timing pulleys without auxiliary bearings.
