Operating from a single-phase supply of 240 V, the motor locks to the line cycle and passes it through a 5:1 gear train. This reduction limits the output shaft to 14.4 rpm when the source is 60 Hz and to 12 rpm on 50 Hz lines, simplifying encoder scaling and allowing direct coupling to feed screws.
