The SS50 is a low-speed synchronous motor produced by Danaher for the Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors series. In automated conveyors, indexing tables, or metering pumps, this motor delivers constant angular displacement per power cycle. Mechanisms can operate directly from the utility supply without requiring an external inverter for speed regulation.
The windings are designed for a single-phase input of 120 VAC, which energizes the stator at the standard North American utility frequency of 60 Hz. Under that excitation, the rotor settles at a rated no-load speed of 72 rpm. Output torque reaches 50 oz-in, providing sufficient stall margin for light positioning work such as valve actuation or operation of small gear trains. Three preterminated leads simplify wiring because the motor uses a three-lead connection for its electrical interface. This arrangement reduces the amount of field wiring needed when the motor is installed in compact equipment. The sinusoidal pull-in characteristic of the windings allows the motor to synchronize quickly with the power supply and maintain its position without digital feedback.
When the unit is powered from a 50 Hz supply, it turns at 60 rpm, a proportional reduction that preserves synchronous operation in regions using that utility frequency.
