The SS451-1028 is a single-phase synchronous motor produced by Danaher for the Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors series. It is built for industrial automation tasks that require repeatable constant speed without closed-loop feedback. Machine designers can use it to drive conveyors, feeders, or metering pumps directly from the utility mains.
This model draws 0.8 A from a 120 VAC supply and is tuned for the North American mains standard of 60 Hz. When energized through the required 14 µF phase-shift capacitor, its rotor locks onto the stator field to deliver a synchronous output of 72 rpm. Minimum pull-out torque is rated at 450 oz-in, so the motor can hold speed against modest load fluctuations while avoiding cogging. The single-phase winding simplifies wiring, and the specified phase-shift component ensures the 90-degree electrical separation that produces a rotating magnetic field. Load inertia reflected back to the motor should remain near the stated 0.23 oz-in-s² so acceleration transients do not exceed the available torque margin. A maximum frame diameter of 3.39 in permits installation inside compact panels, and the minimum shaft extension of 1.10 in provides sufficient engagement length for couplings or gears.
The shaft can tolerate an axial force of 50 lb and a radial side load of 25 lb, allowing belt tension or thrust washers to be applied without premature bearing wear. Overall mass is 6.5 lb, which eases mounting on lightweight brackets while providing sufficient thermal mass for steady operation. The stainless steel output shaft has a diameter of 0.500 in, is ground for concentric rotation, and mates with standard keyway hubs. Four through-holes on a 3.875-in bolt circle are each 0.223 in in diameter. These holes secure the housing to the driven machine and keep the stator rigid against reaction torque during startup and braking.
