Product Description:
The SS400BE is a single-phase synchronous stepping motor manufactured by Danaher as part of the Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors series. The device maintains a fixed step relationship between the applied line frequency and shaft position, making it suitable for low-speed metering, timing, and positioning functions in industrial automation. Its synchronous construction locks rotor speed directly to the power line, allowing predictable motion control in conveyors, augers, and agitators without closed-loop feedback.
Under rated conditions, the motor produces a minimum running torque of 400 oz-in (2.82 Nm), so it can start and sustain motion when coupled to moderate frictional or gravitational loads. The shaft turns at a synchronous rate of 72 rpm, eliminating the need for gears in some slow-drive applications. When energized from the mains, the motor draws only 0.6 A per phase, which permits direct connection to standard control transformers and simplifies thermal management inside panels. Operation from a supply of 120 VAC provides installation flexibility, while compatibility with a utility frequency of 60 Hz keeps the speed consistent. A 6.5 µF phase-shifting capacitor and a 150 Ω, 50 W resistor balance the stator currents for smooth rotation.
The shaft can accept an axial load of up to 50 lb (222 N) and a radial load of 25 lb (111 N), supporting belts, couplings, or moderate overhung pulleys without excessive bearing wear. A frame depth of 6.62 in (168.1 mm) gives the motor a compact profile for benchtop process machinery and other installations with limited space. Its mass of 12.3 lb (5.6 kg) provides stability against vibration during operation. A 0.5-inch-diameter keyed shaft transfers torque securely to compatible couplings or pulleys. The rear shaft extension provides an additional mechanical interface, while the integral terminal board provides an accessible location for electrical connections.
