The P1 Encoders and Brakes series is a KEB COMBIPERM family of permanent-magnet brakes designed for dry operation, using permanent magnetic force for engagement and DC excitation for release.
The series is available in multiple mechanical configurations, including flange-mounted and back-mounted versions, with armature-only designs as well as internal-hub and external-hub assemblies across sizes 01 through 10. In operation, the magnet is fixed to the stationary mounting surface while the armature assembly is connected to the rotating shaft or driven surface, creating a torsionally backlash-free braking connection when de-energized. When correctly polarized DC voltage is applied, the electromagnetic circuit neutralizes the permanent magnetic field so the flat spring pulls the armature away from the friction surface and allows free rotation. The series also requires controlled installation and maintenance practices such as precise centering, defined air-gap adjustment, and burnishing to achieve rated braking torque and maintain reliable operation over time.
