The 05.P1.100-0087 is a brake module from the P1 Encoders and Brakes series manufactured by KEB. It is intended for motion axes that must hold position when power is removed and release quickly when current is applied. Installed between the servo motor and the load, the module uses a permanent-magnet principle to clamp the armature plate against the mating surface and lock the shaft during idle periods or emergency stops. This arrangement allows the axis to remain secured without relying only on drive torque. Because the holding force is present in the de-energized state, the brake can support safe stopping behavior during outages and planned machine pauses.
The active air gap is limited to 0.2 mm, and the design permits a maximum clearance of 0.5 mm before magnetic force begins to drop below rated levels. Both figures guide shim adjustment during installation and help keep release and holding performance consistent. A continuous duty cycle of 100% means the coil can remain energized without thermal derating, which suits axes that cycle frequently or stay released for long periods. The housing has an IP20 rating, so it is protected against finger contact but still requires enclosure inside a cabinet or guarded machine space. When power is lost, the unit remains Engaged, which helps retain the load on vertical or safety-critical axes until control power returns. Release occurs once voltage is reapplied within the allowed range of +6% / -10%, and keeping the assembly within that tolerance window helps the brake open cleanly. Careful alignment between the magnet and armature also helps limit uneven wear and reduces the chance of drag after release.
