Product Description:
The 09.P1.100-024F is a permanent-magnet safety brake manufactured by KEB within the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. In an automation cell, it mounts on a motor shaft and provides controlled holding for vertical or indexing axes, helping prevent unintended load movement. The compact brake can be used in packaging machines, gantries, and semiconductor handling equipment where available axial space is limited. Its magnetic operating principle provides holding torque without relying on a spring-actuated mechanism.
When power is disconnected, the friction interface remains engaged. Applying current to the coil releases the armature and places the brake in its released state, allowing the shaft to rotate during normal machine cycles. The coil and friction materials support a 100% duty cycle, which permits continuous electrical release without overheating under the stated operating conditions. A nominal air gap of 0.4 mm must be set during installation to provide proper clearance between the magnet and armature. Wear may increase this distance to a service limit of 1.0 mm, after which the brake requires inspection and adjustment. The friction surfaces require dry operation and must remain free of oil and grease. Heat passes through the motor end shield, so the brake does not require external ventilation.
A permanent magnet pulls the armature across the air gap to create the torque path. Energizing the coil produces an opposing magnetic field that releases the armature. An IP20 enclosure rating provides protection against finger contact, making the brake suitable for installation inside a closed cabinet or protected machine housing. The magnet may have no more than 0.2 mm of radial displacement relative to the armature to preserve an even working gap. Shaft concentricity must remain within 0.1 mm to support uniform contact and consistent braking torque. The unit has no manual release lever, so disengagement is controlled electrically through the brake coil.
