The 06.P1.300-0317 is a brake module manufactured by KEB within the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. It is designed to hold or release rotary shafts in automation systems, allowing motors to maintain position during a power loss and disengage rapidly when torque is required. By combining a permanent magnet with an electromagnetic release, the unit provides predictable stopping and starting behavior in conveyor drives, packaging machinery, and indexed assembly stations. This arrangement also avoids adding significant torsional compliance to the connected drive system.
Proper installation depends on maintaining the specified working clearance. The functional air gap is 0.3 mm, and braking torque is maintained until the rotor reaches the permissible maximum gap of 0.65 mm. Beyond that value, the magnetic circuit cannot generate full clamping force. The brake supports 100% duty, so intermittent cooling cycles are unnecessary during normal operation. Its holding action comes from a permanent-magnet-engaged design that keeps the armature pressed against the friction surface whenever supply power is absent. The friction pair uses a dry operating mode, eliminating an oil film that could affect response time. Control electronics must deliver the nominal coil voltage within a tolerance of +6% to -10% to support repeatable release across the intended temperature range.
The housing has an ingress protection rating of IP20, making the brake suitable for clean cabinet installations where access to energized parts is restricted. The coupling provides backlash-free motion, preventing lost motion from affecting positioning under load. When the coil is energized, the armature is pulled away from the magnet and the brake enters the released state. This transition is produced by an electromagnetic coil that counteracts the permanent magnet. If power drops, the magnet applies the braking force and places the rotor in the engaged state. This fail-safe behavior allows the brake to hold the shaft without an external command during wiring faults, emergency stops, or other interruptions to the electrical supply.
