Product Description:
The 05.P1.300-024F is a spring-applied electromagnetic brake produced by KEB within the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. Designed for servo motors and positioning axes, the unit creates holding torque when power is removed, keeping load stations motionless during downtime or emergency stops. In automated machinery, it helps prevent axis drift whenever drives are disabled. Its compact rear-mounted layout allows direct integration behind feedback devices without increasing overall shaft length.
Electrical performance is centered on a nominal drive signal of 24 VDC applied as properly polarized DC through the release input. The coil can tolerate a supply excursion of +6% above and -10% below the nominal level without loss of function, accommodating typical bus variations in multi-axis cabinets. Once energized, the brake disengages so the motor can turn freely, and when supply is cut the brake engages because it is spring-applied. A continuous operating profile is supported by a 100% duty cycle, so thermal derating is unnecessary during long machine cycles. The housing has a protection level of IP20, which provides finger protection but not moisture protection, so enclosure mounting is usually required.
Mechanical clearance is controlled through a nominal armature-to-rotor air gap of 0.2 mm, with a functional ceiling of 0.5 mm before release times become erratic. Keeping the air gap within that range helps the brake release cleanly and reduces variation in disengagement timing. The brake is supplied without a flange, so the carrier hub must align directly with the motor end shield during installation. Ambient operation is permitted from 0 °C to 40 °C, while the internal materials can withstand temperatures up to 120 °C. Storage down to -40 °C is allowed during transport and non-operating periods.
