It uses a permanent magnet engage method with electromagnetic release, operates on DC supply, and has an IP20 rating. The air gap measures 0.3 mm, with a maximum air gap of 0.65 mm.
Internal Product Review
The 06.P1.320-1247 is a KEB electromagnetic brake with back-mounted installation and DC supply compatibility. Permanent-magnet engagement and a powered-off engaged state give the brake dependable fail-safe holding characteristics. A dry operating mode and 100% duty time make the assembly a strong choice for continuous industrial service.

Product Description:
The 06.P1.320-1247 brake module is manufactured by KEB as part of the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. Designed for industrial automation axes, the component holds a motor shaft motionless when commanded, securing equipment during load changes or emergency stops. The device occupies the space normally reserved for an encoder flange, allowing installation where axial length is limited. Its internal permanent-magnet rotor exerts clamping force on an armature plate, enabling reliable position holding without external hydraulic or pneumatic clamps.
During normal operation, the brake stays disengaged with an initial air gap of 0.3 mm, which provides the clearance needed for release. The unit remains open whenever the control power is on, so the shaft can rotate freely. Continuous energization is allowed because the coil supports a 100% duty cycle, preventing excessive thermal buildup during long operating cycles. Torque comes from a permanent-magnet rotor enclosed in a housing rated IP20 for protection against finger contact inside cabinets. Back mounting, an internal hub, a flangeless body, and dry-running operation simplify direct motor integration.
When power is removed, the brake enters its engaged state. Magnetic attraction closes the air gap until contact, and subsequent release depends on the electromagnetic circuit. The maximum permissible separation before service is 0.65 mm, so wear inspections compare the measured gap with this limit and the initial setting. Alignment tolerances allow an offset of only 0.2 mm between the magnet and armature faces and an eccentricity of only 0.08 mm between the shaft and magnet to maintain an even pull. The coil is supplied from a DC power source that is switched through the control drive’s release module. Correct wiring uses red for positive polarity and black for negative polarity, while the rear-mounted, flangeless body keeps the assembly’s axial length unchanged.
