Product Description:
The 03.P1.120-0617 electromagnetic brake is produced by KEB and belongs to the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. It is intended for mounting on servo or induction motors where controlled stopping and position holding are required in automated machinery. When current is applied, the brake engages and reduces shaft motion so that tooling, indexing tables, or linear stages remain stationary during dwell periods or emergency stops. This operating principle supports controlled motion restraint without requiring a separate mechanical locking device.
This model operates continuously at a 100% duty cycle, allowing it to remain energized without thermal cycling concerns. Its rated holding torque reaches 2 Nm, while its measured dynamic torque at 20 °C is 1.7 Nm; these values represent its holding and deceleration capabilities under different operating conditions. At winding temperatures up to 100 °C, the brake maintains a static torque of 1.8 Nm, supporting load retention after prolonged operation. The brake uses a coil supply of 24 VDC and draws 11 W under nominal conditions, allowing the power supply to be sized for its electrical load. A round flange and internal hub simplify alignment with motor end bells. Installation requires an air gap between 0.15 mm and 0.4 mm to maintain consistent magnetic force across the permitted clearance range.
The rotor can spin without frictional contact at speeds up to 10000 rpm, making the brake suitable for motors and spindles that operate at high rotational speeds. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, so an additional enclosure should protect the assembly where dust, moisture, or other airborne contaminants are present. With a mass of only 0.2 kg, the assembly adds little weight to the motor and connected shaft line. The armature has an inertia of 0.068 × 10⁻⁴ kg·m², which limits its effect on acceleration and deceleration response. Its flange distributes clamping forces evenly, and the hub centers the brake on the shaft while transmitting torque through frictional contact rather than a keyed connection.
