Product Description:
The 03.P1.100-0097 is an electromagnetic brake manufactured by KEB for the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. Intended for industrial automation, the part mounts on the rear of a motor or inside a geared assembly to lock a rotating shaft when commanded. An internal coil releases the spring-applied friction disk, so the brake engages automatically on loss of power and disengages under voltage control. Because the brake is spring applied, holding force remains available whenever control power is removed, which supports safe stopping on axes that pause between cycles. This operating mode provides controlled stopping and secure holding for indexing tables, pick-and-place arms, and light conveyor axes.
Continuous energization is supported because the brake carries a duty cycle of 100%, meaning it can remain powered without planned cooldown intervals. The coil is rated at 24 VDC, a common control-bus voltage that simplifies wiring with standard PLC outputs. When the nominal air gap is held to 0.15 mm, the mechanism can deliver a rated holding torque of 2.7 Nm. At this setting, it still permits dynamic shaft speeds up to 10,000 rpm, so the brake can operate on high-speed servo spindles without drag during release. Power consumption is 11 W, which adds a small but continuous electrical load and contributes heat inside compact motor compartments.
Clearance growth caused by wear is monitored against a maximum gap of 0.40 mm; beyond this distance, magnetic pull drops and stopping times lengthen. Even at an elevated coil temperature of 120 °C, the unit provides a static holding capacity of 1.8 Nm, which helps maintain position in warm motor housings. The housing meets IP20, so it must be installed inside an enclosure where contact and contamination are limited. A round mounting flange diameter of 54 mm aligns the brake with compact IEC motor frames and leaves room for adjacent encoder hardware. The open housing style is suited to protected interiors where the friction surfaces can remain clean and dry for consistent braking behavior.
