Product Description:
The 08.P1.320-0467 is a safety brake produced by KEB within the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. Installed on the back of a motor or gearbox, it clamps the shaft whenever control power is removed, preventing unintentional motion in automated machinery and material-handling axes. An internal permanent-magnet field provides the holding force, while an electromagnetic release coil supports fast and repeatable operation during continuous-duty positioning tasks in industrial automation cells.
The brake coil is rated for 24 VDC, and the lead set uses red for positive and black for negative to simplify wiring to a drive or safety relay. Continuous energization is permitted because the design has a 100% duty cycle. An enclosure rating of IP20 protects against finger contact with energized components when the assembly is installed inside a panel. The standard air gap is set to 0.35 mm, and this clearance must be maintained so the brake can develop full holding force when the coil is de-energized. Dry operation prevents oil from contaminating the friction surfaces. The back-mounted arrangement positions the magnet body directly against the machine frame, reducing the axial space required by the assembly.
The brake releases when the coil counters the holding force, and it reapplies after the coil is de-energized. The maximum functional air gap is 0.9 mm. Armature centering accuracy is maintained by a maximum magnet-to-armature offset of 0.2 mm, while the shaft-to-magnet concentricity tolerance is limited to 0.08 mm. These limits help prevent uneven friction-surface wear and maintain consistent response times. The internal hub mates directly with a keyed motor shaft, and the assembled brake has a mass of 1.8 kg, which adds minimal weight to the drive train. Because the unit is electromagnetically released, the control system can test brake engagement by momentarily removing coil voltage without requiring mechanical intervention.
