Product Description:
The 06.P1.320-0317 is an electromagnetic spring-applied brake produced by KEB for the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. Designed for integration on the rear of servomotor shafts, the component generates holding torque when de-energized and releases once current flows, preventing uncontrolled movement in automated machinery. Its compact construction permits installation inside motor housings where axial space is limited, allowing the brake to function in tandem with rotary encoders for accurate positioning.
Electrical activation is based on a nominal supply of 24 VDC, and the coil draws up to 18 W during release. Because the winding is rated for a continuous duty cycle of 100%, the brake can remain energized without overheating during extended machine cycles. With a working air gap of 0.30 mm between the magnet and armature, the magnetic circuit develops a rated holding torque of 12 Nm. Dimensional tolerances further include a magnet-to-armature offset of 0.20 mm and a shaft-to-magnet offset of 0.08 mm, which helps center the friction surface. A flangeless mounting style together with an internal hub minimizes overhung length and places the torque path directly on the shaft.
Assembly clearances are confirmed by an allowable air gap limit of 0.65 mm; exceeding this figure signals disc wear and requires adjustment. Radial concentricity during installation is controlled by a mounting runout of 0.05 mm, while the hub accepts shafts up to 18 mm in diameter, matching many servo motor sizes. The brake weighs only 0.6 kg, adding minimal inertia to the drive train. At elevated coil temperatures of 120 °C, it can still generate 8 Nm of static torque, ensuring safe holding under thermal load. An IP20 enclosure rating denotes protection against finger contact and small debris, so the device is intended for placement inside a closed motor or cabinet where exposure is low.
