Product Description:
The 07.P1.320-1797 brake module is produced by KEB and belongs to the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. Designed for installation on the rear of small- and medium-frame motors, this device acts as a normally engaged safety brake that holds the shaft whenever power is removed from the control circuit. By supplying static torque through permanent-magnet attraction, it prevents unplanned movement in vertical axes, indexing conveyors, and positioning tables commonly found in automated machinery.
During operation, the coil is energized with 24 VDC, which pulls the armature clear of the magnet so the motor can rotate freely. The winding is rated for 100% duty time, meaning the brake may remain released continuously without exceeding its thermal limits. Protection against accidental contact is provided by the IP20 enclosure rating, which is appropriate for clean cabinet spaces rather than washdown areas. The working clearance between the magnet and armature is preset to an air gap of 0.3 mm. Service wear is permissible until the distance reaches the 0.8 mm maximum air gap, at which point the air gap must be adjusted to restore the braking force. These dimensional limits keep the magnetic flux high enough for full holding torque while avoiding coil saturation.
Release is accomplished through electromagnetic actuation, which counteracts the flux generated by the permanent-magnet stack when voltage is applied. The brake uses a rear-mounted configuration, and the housing seats directly against the driven machine without a flange, relying on an internal hub matched to the shaft bore. The brake is intended for dry operating conditions, so oil and grease must not contaminate the friction surfaces. Installation permits up to 0.2 mm of offset between the magnet and armature to maintain consistent engagement. Shaft runout must not exceed 0.08 mm during operation. The red lead connects to the positive terminal, while the black lead connects to the negative terminal of the 24 V controller.
